No entertainment area in any home is the same as the next (and some homes don’t have one at all). It’s important to consider your needs and your goals when it comes to entertainment area renovations; you need to consider how often you plan to use it, what you’re going to use the space for, the different seasons, and more.
One very big consideration to take into account is the flooring you need. There are different floors for different purposes and one may work best for your specific needs.
Fire Resistant Floor
Who doesn’t love a braai, or a nice fire on colder nights? Many entertainment areas in South Africa have a braai area that happily crackles and pops burning embers. But these embers can become a potential hazard on a floor that sets alight easily. Vinyl flooring is a wonderful option for these specific entertainment areas, particularly if they are indoors (installing vinyl flooring outside is not recommended). Vinyl will typically resist ignition, and will stop burning very quickly if, for whatever reason, it does ignite.
Entertainment areas are generally subject to spills and messes; whether it’s from someone spilling a drink, or some food slipping off a plate. You want to avoid someone falling because of these mishaps, so you need a floor that can withstand a few inevitable spills without causing an accident. Again, vinyl shines through here, being non-slip even when it is wet. Tiles are not recommended, unless they have been reinforced with special non-slip coating – you can chat to your flooring professional about that.
Floor for Colder Temperatures
Your entertaining shouldn’t stop just because the temperature has dropped. You need a floor that’s going to keep the heat in when it’s cold out, and the cool in when it’s hot out! Once again, there is a contender that truly stands out. Luxury vinyl is cooler when it’s hot, but will retain heat if the room is heated. It is also a great option for underfloor heating!
